FAQ: Easy “how-to” Answers

What is a Podcast?

  • A podcast is simply a recorded audio program…it’s like a radio broadcast, except that it is a permanent piece of media that can be listened to at any time. You can listen to it here on this website, or download it and play it on your portable media player (like an iPod).

How do I listen to a Podcast?

You can listen to any Podcast on miriamfeder.com in 2 ways:

  1. Streaming (live): Just click the “play” links or this button:
  2. On your iPod: Download and add the mp3 file to your iTunes library to add it to your iPod.

How do I download a Podcast?

  • Look for the “Download” link below the written description of the podcast.
  • RIGHT CLICK the word “Download” to display a list of options…select the “Save As” or the “Save Link As” option.
  • This will open a window that asks you to choose WHERE to save the mp3 file; save the file where you can find it.
  • Then, in iTunes or in your music player software, add the mp3 file to your library and update your iPod as you normally do.

What am I subscribing to? What is an RSS feed?

  • You are subscribing to an “RSS Feed,” which is a family of web formats that automatically connect the content (blog entries, podcasts, etc) of one website (like this one) with another website or web-based tool. An RSS feed is a channel for your to get fresh content from your favorite web sites, automatically!

What software, etc do I need to “subscribe?”

  • You need a tool called an “RSS Aggregator.” It is a small program or web-based service that collects content from all your Subscribed Feeds in one place, automatically. Every time you open your aggregator, it will go and look for fresh content in your subscriptions, and bring them to you. The “Subscribe” buttons (pictured to the left) on this site link to web-based Aggregator services. You can also get an aggregator for your computer that runs as a stand-alone program, or even as a part of your web-browser. We recommend Firefox for web browsing; you can easily add an Aggregator tool into Firefox. Or, check out this list of other tools.
